September 2026 Update - Alternate outfit sketches and event announcements

Hi, everyone! Welcome to another Jest Messters update!

This month, we focused on designing the main characters' alternate/casual outfits. The process usually goes like this: I draw rough concept sketches of the alternate outfits, then pass them to April, our main artist, who uses the concept sketches to create a sprite sketch over the existing base sprite.

Here are the sketches!

Neim's Casual Outfit Sketch

Those of you may know that Jest Messters is a remake of an old game I made back in high school, The Punniest Pun Messter. Back then, I drew all the (wonky and anatomically wrong) sprites by myself.

This was Neim's casual outfit sprite:

I quite like the original design she had, but I have to admit that my fashion sense wasn't the best 😅, so I decided to redraw it to have the same "denim overall" style while looking a bit more fashionable.

These are what I came up with (the 2nd and 4th sketches are pajama ideas, and as for the third t-shirt... yep, it's a pun)

Eventually, April took the first idea and made Neim more fashionable:

I quite like the overalls, especially the star buckles! However, we're still deciding if the inner t-shirt should be vertically-striped, horizontally-striped, or simply plain. What do you think?

Phoenix's Casual Outfit Sketch

We planned to have 2 alternate outfits for Phoenix- a "casual" and a "model" outfit.

Ignore the last sketch...

Those of you who followed me might have known I have a WiP project called Lynch-Locked!, a 3D mystery escape room game. Phoenix is a side character in that game, and his "model outfit" sprite is already designed by Jace Wisoul.

I decided to keep the model outfit the same, and have him wear a varsity jacket for his casual outfit.

Doesn't he look charming? 💞

Matt's Casual Outfit Sketch

This is Matt's old sprite in TPPM:

Matt's casual outfit is probably the simplest of them all- he's just wearing his usual red jacket, with a black v-neck shirt inside. April, however, decided to add a cute Shiba Inu (?) dog on the shirt...

... I just realized that it could be a reference to Doge... Do you guys know that meme? Or is it a little too old? XD

Brb, gonna ask her about this... Will update you about her dog design next devlog... 🤔

Seth's Casual Outfit Sketch

Seth is a uniquely classy character among the cast... which means we don't get to see him in a t-shirt that often.

I wish I can be as classy and elegant as him. My wardrobe is literally the opposite of his- full of pajamas and weird meme t-shirts.

Speaking of weird shirts, I have a"fashun" t-shirt, a "tung-tung-tung sahur" t-shirt (gifted by my friend), and also have a shirt that says "I don't know what to wear so I put this t-shirt on". Hmm... maybe I can have Matt rotate between these shirts? XD

Anyway, this is what April came up with for Seth's "casual" outfit:

Cool, right? He's her favorite child indeed 😂

Rico's Casual Outfit Concept Sketch

Fun fact, the yellow checkered shirt is inspired by my grandpa's wardrobe. I have no idea why I chose his fashion style as my inspiration- perhaps because his grouchy attitude is roughly the same as his? XD

In the end, we decided to use the blue outerwear with an inner long-sleeved t-shirt.

Have any of you watched Dr. Stone? The rocket and the E=mc^2 designs were inspired by it. I think it suits a nerd like Rico. However, April can only fit the last part of the equation as the outerwear covers the rest.
